<image:title>About - The Early Childhood Cognition Research Group @ Arizona State University consists of developmental psychology labs that share an interest in how infants and children learn, communicate, and understand their environment.</image:title>
<image:caption>We study this by having children engage in fun activities—sometimes, this might include watching fun videos or playing games with an experimenter; other times, it can include playing with different kinds of toys. Participation in these studies allow us and other researchers to expand our understanding of how children learn, grow, and thrive. You can participate in our studies by visiting our lab on ASU Tempe’s campus, online (over Zoom), or at our “living lab” at the Children’s Museum of Phoenix.</image:caption>

      <image:title>About - Participate Online From Anywhere!</image:title>
<image:caption>Some of our studies are currently being conducted online. Most studies involve scheduling a time to meet with an experimenter on Zoom (a free video-conferencing software), while others allow you to complete a study independently at any time that works well for you. Our online studies might involve your child watching videos, playing games, and talking with the researcher -- some studies might even involve your participation! Participation is a fun way for you and your family to not only get involved in science, but to also learn more about child development. If you have a child under the age of 8 and would like to participate in one of our studies, click the “sign up” button to schedule a study, or join our participant database to be contacted about future opportunities!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Labs - The Child Study Lab</image:title>
<image:caption>Established by the Department of Psychology in 1972, the Child Study Lab (CSL) is a preschool community where children and families explore, create, learn and grow. The CSL is located in the same wing of the Psychology Department as the Early Childhood Cognition Group. They serve children ages 15 months to 5 years. Researchers in the Early Childhood Cognition Group conduct research at the CSL in collaboration with the director, Anne Kupher, students, staff, and families</image:caption>

      <image:title>Labs - Theory of Mind Lab</image:title>
<image:caption>Run by Dr. William Fabricius, The Theory of Mind Lab is working to solve a potentially serious, but overlooked, problem with the standard tasks used to assess young children's understanding of false beliefs. These same tasks have been used to study theory of mind in infants and chimpanzees. The problem is that a confound in the tasks makes the interpretation of correct answers ambiguous and obscures a developmentally intermediate way of reasoning about the mind. The resolution of this problem will have theoretical implications for how children's theory of mind develops and for how theory of mind has evolved, and practical implications for interventions with autistic individuals. Other theory of mind topics include young children’s early linguistic references to mental states, and school-age children’s and high schoolers’ understanding of the interpretative nature of mental processes and how that relates to their understanding of conflict and their aggressive behavior. Dr. Fabricius also also studies the long-term effects of the father-child relationship, parent conflict, and visitation arrangements on children. Dr. Fabricius is focused on the implications this research can have for social policy.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Labs - McBeath Lab</image:title>
<image:caption>Research in Dr. Michael McBeath’s lab focuses on computational modeling of perception-action in dynamic, natural environments, with specialties that span sports, robotics, music, navigation, animal behavior, and multisensory object perception. Dr. McBeath also has an interest in the developmental origins of perception and cognition and is currently conducting collaborative research projects with Drs. Viridiana Benitez and Kelsey Lucca.</image:caption>
